หลังจาก The King of Fighters: Destiny ซึ่งเป็นซีรีส์ที่โด่งดังบน YouTube ได้ฉายไปเมื่อปี 2017 ที่ผ่านมา ทำให้กระแส The King of Fighters กลับมาบูมอีกครั้ง ล่าสุดก็ได้มีตัวอย่างภาพยนต์ The King of Fighters: Awaken เผยโฉมตัวอย่างแรกออกมาแล้ว โดยตัวภาพยนต์มีกำหนดเข้าฉายในประเทศจีนปี 2022 ซึ่งจากตัวอย่างได้เผยตัวละครใหม่อย่าง Goenitz ไฟนอลบอสของ The King of Fighters ’96 ออกมา โดย Kyo ไม่สามารถใช้เปลวเพลิงของตนแผดเผา Goenitz ได้เลย
